Tablets are the hottest consumer electronics category in the US at the moment

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has come up with a new study that has found out which are the most sought after consumer electronics categories in the US this year.


According to the results of the study, tablet computers are currently holding the top spot as the hottest consumer electronics commodity in the States. The household penetration rate of tablets has increased by 17% year-over-year, while that of smartphones has increased by 12 %. Currently, the overall penetration rate of smartphones sits at about 58%, that of tablets is at 39%, claims Kevin Tillman, senior research analyst, market research, CEA.

OK, so this data didn't really catch us by surprise, but can you guess which are the device types that are following tablets and smartphones? Third place goes to e-readers, while fourth is for wireless mobile hotspots. the CEA notes that this is actually the first year when the top four positions are taken by mobile devices.
